Job Title: Assistant Farm Manager

Job Location: Conover, NC

Job Hours:

    • Starting late February/early March 2022
    • 30-40 hours per week
    • Tuesday-Saturday
    • Sunday and Monday off
    • Seasonal adjustments
    • 5 days paid trial period before employment

Job Compensation and Benefits:

    • $13/hr
    • $20 food credit per week
    • 5 paid sick days with doctors note
    • 5 paid time off days after 6 months
    • Potential for wage increases with experience and skill

Job Overview and Responsibilities: Honey Tree Farm is a year round, small scale vegetable farm, focusing on market gardening techniques that rely heavily on work ethic, efficiency and passion. We strive to improve our soil, knowledge, relationships, and to grow the best produce possible. Therefore, the Assistant Farm Manager role is a very active role in the day-to-day operations of the farm and team. Key responsibilities are:

    • Being on time for scheduled work hours, deliveries and farmers markets
    • Starting seeds, bed preparation, harvesting, wash and pack procedure, cultivating, pruning, irrigating and a wide range of farm tasks 
    • The ability to work on individual and team projects, take instruction, stay focused and on task, and finish tasks quickly and efficiently 
    • Understand the flow of the farm, stay organized and strive to continually learn
    • Perform regular usage of machinery, ATV, gas powered tools, electric tools, hand tools, seeders, mechanical harvesters, etc.
    • Attention to detail of crops, infrastructure, equipment, processes and people
    • Great communication skills with team members and customers
    • Positive attitude on-farm and off-farm as a representative
    • Pack, organize and deliver orders to food hubs, restaurants, customers or other farm partners
    • Farmers Market attendance on Saturdays, which includes timely pickup of product and display, travel, setup, merchandising, sales, customer service, money handling, breakdown, and returning to the farm with leftovers
    • Perform tasks for farm enterprises and partnerships

Job Qualifications:

    • 18 years or older
    • Legal work status in the U.S.
    • Valid drivers license and insurance with clean driving record
    • Reliable vehicle for deliveries and farmers markets
    • Comfortable hooking up, pulling and maneuvering trailers 
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
    • Ability to lift totes or coolers 3-5 ft tall and stack or load onto shelves or trailers
    • Ability to work in all weather conditions (heat, rain, cold) with proper attire
    • Ability to use both arms, hands and fingers for every activity
    • Perform a wide range of hard manual labor commonly associated with farming
    • Ability to stand, walk, crouch, kneel, squat, crawl, bend over or climb ladders 100% of the work day
    • Handle knives and sharp objects in a way that is safe for yourself and others
    • Previous farming or horticulture experience
